Fabulous 50: Liberty Bowl Victory

On December 16, 1967, NC State’s football team won the Liberty Bowl. This was the team’s first bowl game victory.

NC State ranked No. 3 by the end of the 1967 season, with 8 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie. The team was known for its "White Shoes Defense," holding opponents to less than 9 points per game. Prominent in the defense was Dennis Byrd, two-time All-American.
